Tuesday

We have arrived safe and sound and in good spirits...

We enjoyed our packed lunch sitting outside in the sunshine - an unexpected bonus considering the weather forecast before we set off! Later in the afternoon we set off across the reservoir in the bell boats. Super strong paddle skills were put to the test in the breeze. We loved playing a new game called camouflage – trickier for some of the children in brightly coloured coats! Some of us decided to brave the cold water and jumped into the reservoir. Luckily, we warmed up quickly back in our cabin and then set off for our evening meal. Ready and raring to go after a great meal, we went on a hike around the centre and played some games. We’re now ready to settle down, look at a few photos from our fantastic first day before getting ready for bed and settling down for a restful night’s sleep – we hope!

Facing our fears and embracing new challenges...

After a great first night’s sleep we were ready and raring to go. Today has been a day of facing our fears and embracing new challenges. We split into three groups to complete a variety of activities including abseiling, crate stacking and zip wiring. We set ourselves personal goals and enjoyed achieving them. We are developing our teamwork, not only when completing the challenges, but also learning to help each other during room inspections and cleaning up after mealtimes. This afternoon, we hiked to the Birds of Prey Centre in Leaplish which is always one of the highlights of the trip. You can tell from this quote from one of the children how fantastic the trip was, “We got to experience a once in a lifetime experience handling the birds.” Finally, we finished with singing around the campfire.

Brilliant teamwork and supporting each other…

Our wonderful Year 4 children have continued to make us proud today by working together and encouraging each other to succeed in their activities. Today’s challenges have been a selection of zip wire, crate stacking, abseiling, climbing, problem solving and archery. The rain finally caught up with us but luckily it was only a light drizzle and didn’t last long so it didn’t dampen our spirits. This evening, the children have been developing their orienteering skills by working together on map reading and finding clues to crack a code. What a fantastic last evening at Hawkhirst. We’ll be so sad to say goodbye but we’re looking forward to Bushcraft and Den Building tomorrow.

Friday

Thank you Hawkhirst we've had a blast...

We completed our final morning of activities, namely Bushcraft. We learnt how to build a fire and cooked on it. We then split into two groups and worked in teams to create dens. Huge fun with lots of great teamwork. We are always sad to say goodbye to Hawkhirst but have been so proud of the Year 4s this year. They have grown in confidence, resilience and independence. Thank you to everyone for another fantastic year.
